London & Greenwich by Csaba Módos

On our third visit to London we decided to look around Greenwich, which is, true to its name, one of the greenest parts of London. We walked through the lush Greenwich park, and our first stop was the Observatory. We stood around the famous Prime Meridian, with one step on the western and one on the eastern hemisphere. There were a lot of instruments and devices on display and they were all connected to astronomy, navigation and time. We saw huge telescopes, pendulums, quadrants, astrolabes and also the first clock that functioned on ships as well and helped in navigation. There was an amazing interactive exhibition about space as well. We touched the oldest meteorite in the world.

We strolled down to the riverbank and passed the Cutty Sark, the famous tea skipper and then we took the Thames river ride. It was a really enjoyable and spectacular trip along the Docklands and the Embankment. We passed all the famous sights: the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament, HMS Belfast, the City, the London Eye etc. We cruised under several famous bridges like Tower Bridge or Waterloo Bridge. After the river ride we had some free time. So the group just dispersed to have another great afternoon exploring this really colourful and exciting metropolis. We also met one of our former students who lives and works in London.
